The ATO is currently undertaking a clean up of unused ABN’s (Australian Business Number’s) and there are specific activities they are looking for to show that you are in fact running an active business;
1.    Is your business still operating on a regular basis?
2.    Are all your business activity statements up to date/lodged?
3.    Are all your business and contact details correct?
4.    Do you have the correct registrations for your business ie: GST/ITW/PAYG

It is your responsibility to keep your ABN details up to date and if you no longer require your ABN it is a good idea to cancel it to avoid unnecessary lodgements.  It may even be necessary to cancel your ABN and apply for a new one if your business structure has changed in any way.

How can your bookkeeper help?
If you have any unlodged Activity Statements to complete or need your details updated, we can help.  Engaging a registered and qualified bookkeeper will ensure your details are kept up to date and your Activity Statements lodged on time.
